Nato nel 1970, ha conseguito il diploma in Pittura all'Hunter College di New York (1998) e in Incisione al City College di New York (1995). Ha studiato Belle Arti presso l'Istituto Pratt (1990-1991); è stato assistente presso il Dipartimento di Pittura presso l'Hunter College (1997-98) e ha lavorato al Metropolitan Museum of Art di New York (1992-1998). Hromec si è aggiudicato una borsa di studio per studiare Belle Arti alla Slade School of Fine Art di Londra, e nel 2002, per ampliare ulteriormente i suoi orizzonti, ha conseguito una laurea in Arte al Politecnico slovacco di Bratislava.

Durante il suo soggiorno di otto anni a New York, Hromec sperimenta varie tecniche artistiche fino a raggiungere un suo proprio linguaggio artistico, che chiama “printpainting”.

L'illusione ottica svolge un ruolo importante nei suoi ultimi printpaintings, con piastra di alluminio utilizzato come base.

Il suo lavoro pluripremiato è stato esposto in oltre settanta mostre negli Stati Uniti, Canada ed Europa. Nell’estate del 1997, uno dei suoi dipinti è stato incluso in una mostra collettiva presso il Metropolitan Museum of Art di New York. Hromec ha anche esposto presso Museo Rocca di Dozza; Lucca Centre of Contemporary Art; Area35 Art Gallery a Milano; Galleria Arte Spazio Tempo a Venice; Extrartis a Sorrento; The Houses of Art Gallery, Red Penguin Art Gallery e al Museo Cortijo Miraflores a Marbella; United Nations Plaza a Ginevra e New York; Claudine Hohl Gallery di Zurigo; Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum e GMB a Bratislava; Europazentrum a Graz; Westbeth Gallery di New York; Istituto Slovacco di Praga, Budapest, Berlino e Vienna; V. Kramar Gallery e D+ Gallery di Praga; Beaux Arts Gallery a Heeze; Greco Gallery di Vienna e altri luoghi.

Nel 2010, il Danubiana Meulensteen Museum of Art ha pubblicato la monografia “Twenty Years” dedicata al lavoro di Hromec dal 1990 al 2010.

A dicembre 2013, Cantor Art Press di New York ha pubblicato il libro “Robert Hromec: New Mixed-Media Paintings on Aluminum Plate” che può essere trovato nelle biblioteche dei più importanti musei americani. Hromec vive e lavora a Bratislava (Slovacchia).
