STEVE J. DRAKOS - "HIGH STYLE OBSESSIONS"
Selezioni dalla collezione d'arte fotografica "Dionysion": visioni d’avanguardia ispirate a passioni, emotività, ossessioni umane, basi chimiche e spirituali di tutte le Arti.
Presentata in questa mostra è una selezione di immagini dal “Dionysion”: collezione di fotografia d’arte d’avanguardia di Steve J. Drakos e parte speciale di un vasto archivio di opere realizzate
in Europa negli ultimi due decenni. Le immagini sono scelte da un periodo di intensa produzione, dal 2001 al 2011, quando Drakos è in continuo movimento nelle città di Barcellona, Budapest, Roma,
Praga, Atene, creando visioni uniche per estimatori internazionali ed essendo uno dei massimi fotografi dell’erotica hardcore di lusso a livello mondiale. I suoi scatti, distribuiti in oltre
cinquanta paesi, costituiscono una carriera personale nata dalla propria passione per sperimentazioni audaci attraverso la ricerca stilistica, potenti angolazioni visive, il controllo della luce,
la gestione delle tecniche del colore e precise scelte di stampa fine-art, con i soggetti provocati dal fotografo in azione reale ed emotiva, ritratti come fotogrammi da scene di films in eterna
ripresa che lui chiama le "ossessioni di alto stile" di un fiero, libertino e feroce mondo occidentale.
Dichiarazione d'artista.
La mia fotografia è senza mezzi termini un’arte spirituale. E’ drammatica, viscerale come il teatro ellenico antico, sovrannaturale come un rito ortodosso. Io creo materia per lo spirito
attraverso scene della tradizione architettonica europea e brani del suo paesaggio, sperimentazioni di nuda forza vitale senza compromessi e ostentazione di potenza tramite corpi in alto styling.
Evito il più possibile lo scatto in studio, raramente uso il bianco e nero, prediligo i luoghi reali visti come fotogrammi di una situazione in atto... Ho sempre notato che l’atmosfera rilassata
sul set dà risultati scarsi, mentre la tensione rende bene: io dico alle/ai modelle/i che loro sono le attrici e gli attori del mio film, li immergo in uno stato emotivo di contrasto interiore
che devono interpretare, li faccio sudare ed innervosire in modo che diano espressioni vere, li espongo materialmente al calore e al freddo, li incito a odiarsi, desiderarsi e temersi a vicenda,
voglio che sfidino l’obbiettivo mentre li guardo come gatti chiusi contro un angolo e scatto le loro reazioni. Non posso confessare tutte le cose che ho nella mia mente, io cerco di pianificarne
e realizzarne visivamente alcune parti agendo sull’attrito del set, sulle scelte di post-produzione e di stampa, sul gusto personale per la raffinatezza e originalità del colore che considero la
vera impresa di un artista, come gli orafi manipolano e cesellano i materiali preziosi della Terra nel proprio laboratorio.
La collezione “Dionysion”, un’opera composta da diverse decine di scatti scelti, presentati in trittici o singole icone, una parte dei quali è visibile in questa mostra, insieme alle mie altre
collezioni (“Stoneheart”, “Total Decor”, “Hard Sports”, “Highlands” e la nuova collezione “Hail To Life”) è il mio lascito alchemico alle future elites basato su due formule parallele: Sesso e
Odio, Forza attraverso la Gioia.

Selections from the art photography collection "Dionysion": vanguard visions inspired by human passions, emotionality, obsessions, chemical and spiritual basis of all the Arts.
Featured in this exhibition is a selection of images from the “Dionysion”: a vanguard art photography collection by Steve J. Drakos and a special part of a vast archive of works realized in
Europe in the last two decades. The images are chosen from a period of intense production, from 2001 to 2011, when Drakos is in continuous movement in the cities of Barcelona, Budapest, Rome,
Prague, Athens, creating unique visions for estimators worldwide and being among the world’s top photographers of luxury hardcore erotica. His photo shots, distributed in over fifty countries,
establish a personal career born from his passion for daring experimentations through stylistic research, powerful angles of view, light control, mastery of color techniques and precise fine-art
printing choices, with the subjects provoked by the photographer in real and emotional action, portrayed like frames from movie scenes in eternal shooting that he calls the "high style
obsessions" of a proud, libertine and fierce Western world.
Artist's statement.
My photography is in no uncertain terms a spiritual art. It is dramatic, visceral as the ancient Hellenic theatre, supernatural as an Orthodox rite. I create matter for the spirit through scenes
of the European architectural tradition and pieces of its landscape, experimentations of naked life force without compromise and display of power through bodies in high styling. I avoid as much
as possible shooting in studio, I rarely use black and white, I prefer real places seen as frames of a situation in progress… I have always noticed that the relaxed atmosphere on set gives poor
results, while the tension renders well: I tell the models they are the actresses and actors of my movie, I immerse them in an emotional state of interior contrast that they must interpret, I
make them sweat and get nervous so that they give real expressions, I actually expose them to heat and cold, I incite them to hate, desire and fear each other, I want them to defy the lens while
I am watching them like cats closed against a corner and I shoot their reactions. I cannot confess all the things that I have in my mind, I just try to plan and deliver visually some parts of
them acting on the attrition of the set, on the choices of post-production and of printing, on the personal taste for the refinement and originality of the color which I consider the true
achievement of the artist, like the goldsmiths manipulate and chisel precious materials of the Earth in their laboratory.
The “Dionysion” collection, a work composed of several dozens of selected shots, presented in triptychs or individual icons, a part of which is visible in this exhibition, along with my other
collections (“Stoneheart”, “Total Decor”, “Hard Sports”, “Highlands” and the new collection “Hail To Life”) is my alchemical legacy to future elites based on two parallel formulas: Sex and Hate,
Strength through Joy.
